Volunteering
At the community garden an older volunteer is struggling to lift a bag of compost. They have not asked for help.

What could you do first?
Three things you could say. None of them is the one right answer; each note says why it fits the moment, or why it may not.
Ask: "Would you like a hand with that?"
A strong fit
A specific offer they can accept or wave away.
Say: "I am free if you want another pair of hands."
Also works here
A general offer. It works; it leaves them to come to you.
Take the bag out of their hands.
Worth a second look
You can. Many people would rather struggle than be taken over.
What people here usually expect
- Asking before lifting is normal. Many people would rather do it themselves.
- Offering and stepping back is common and kind.
- A no is fine. It is not about you.
Your words
Write one offer of help to an older person that lets them say no easily.
In the app you write one line here and it lands in your lines. Nothing is graded.
The move this moment practises: Ask before helping.
