A first shift
Your first shift at a café. The manager shows you the coffee machine in one go: grind, tamp, lock in, pull, steam.

They say: "Grind, tamp, lock it in, pull the shot, then steam the milk."
What could you ask?
Three things you could say. None of them is the one right answer; each note says why it fits the moment, or why it may not.
Could you show me the first step again, and I will do it while you watch?
A strong fit
One step, done with your hands, with someone there. That is how the skill sticks.
Can I write the steps down?
Also works here
A list you can check is useful. You may still want to try one step with them.
Try the whole thing from memory.
Worth a second look
You can. Five steps from memory on day one usually means a wasted shot.
What people here usually expect
- Managers expect a new starter to ask for steps again. Training is what the first shifts are for.
- Doing one step while someone watches is a common way to learn.
- Writing the steps down is normal and welcome.
Your words
Write one line asking a manager to show the first step again.
In the app you write one line here and it lands in your lines. Nothing is graded.
The move this moment practises: One step at a time.
