Being a Listener
Showing someone I hear them. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Listening means taking in someone's words. My ears do the listening โ my body can do whatever helps.
2. Some people listen while looking at the speaker. Some listen while looking away, doodling, or moving. All of these are real listening.
3. I can show I am listening in my own way: nodding, saying "mm-hm," asking a question after, or saying back a piece of what I heard.
4. My friend tells me about their trip.
5. If my mind wanders, that is human. I can say: "Wait, can you say that part again?" Asking to hear it again is good listening too.
6. When their story ends, my listening job is done. My friend feels heard โ and I made that happen.

Sovelo Stories are original social narratives, written for neurodivergent kids and reviewed against strict guardrails: no eye-contact training, no masking, no mind-reading โ and "no" is always a complete answer. Evidence-informed preparation, not a treatment. ยฉ Ezra Brown.
