Starting a Conversation
How to begin talking with someone. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. A conversation is words going back and forth between people. Like passing a ball, but with talking.
2. To start one, I can say hello. Then I can add a question or a comment.
3. Good starters are about here and now: "What are you playing?" "Is that a new book?" "Did you see the rain?"
4. I try a conversation starter.
5. After I start, the other person might do different things.
What could happen next? They answer and ask me something back. They give a short answer. They start talking a lot. We don't know yet โ and that's okay. ๐ก I can start a conversation, but both people build it. Any outcome is useful practice.
6. Conversations end on their own after a while. When it ends, I did the brave part: I started it.
