Telling a Story
Sharing something that happened to me. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. When something happens to me, I can tell it as a story. Stories are how people share their days.
2. A story has an order: first, then, last. "First we got in the car. Then we saw the ocean. Last, I found a crab!"
3. Small details make stories fun: the crab was tiny and orange. But I do not need every detail. Just my favorite ones.
4. I tell my friend about my beach day.
5. While I tell it, my listener might react in different ways.
What might my listener do? Ask questions in the middle. Listen quietly until the end. Jump in with their own story. We don't know yet โ and that's okay. ๐ก There is no single right way for a story to land. Telling it is the win.
6. When I say the last part, my story is told. It went from inside my head into someone else's. That is a kind of magic, and I did it.

Sovelo Stories are original social narratives, written for neurodivergent kids and reviewed against strict guardrails: no eye-contact training, no masking, no mind-reading โ and "no" is always a complete answer. Evidence-informed preparation, not a treatment. ยฉ Ezra Brown.
