Eating at a Restaurant

We eat a meal that someone else cooks and brings. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Today we are eating at a restaurant. At a restaurant, cooks make the food and a waiter brings it to our table.
2. First we wait to be seated. Then we sit at a table and look at the menu. The menu is a list of all the foods.
Restaurants have many sounds: talking, dishes clinking, music. Smells from the kitchen drift by.

3. The waiter comes to ask what we want. We each say our order. Then we wait while the cooks make it. Waiting can take a while because cooking takes time.
Waiting at a table can make my body wiggly. That is a normal body feeling.

4. I have choices. I can pick my food from the menu. I can ask for no sauce or extra crackers. I can ask a grown-up to order for me, or I can try ordering myself.
5. I can practice ordering with Spark. Spark will be the waiter.
6. When the food comes, we eat. When everyone is finished, a grown-up pays. Then we get up and go home. The restaurant visit ends when we walk out the door with happy bellies.
