Our New Pet Comes Home
We are getting a new pet, and I am so excited.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. We are getting a new pet! My excited feeling is enormous, and that is wonderful.
2. Here is the surprising part: our new pet might feel scared at first. Everything here is new to them. New smells, new sounds, new people.
3. I can help by being gentle and a little quiet nearby. I let the pet come to me when it is ready. Slow is how animal trust grows.
4. On the first day, the pet hides under the bed.
Why is our new pet hiding? It feels safer in a small cozy spot. It is tired from the big moving day. It is listening and learning our house sounds. We do not have enough information to know. 💡 Hiding does not mean the pet dislikes us. New places take time, for animals and for people.
5. I can have pet jobs. Filling the water bowl. Choosing a toy. Asking a grown-up what our pet eats and when.
6. In a few days or weeks, our pet learns that this is home and we are its people. Becoming best friends takes a little time, and we have plenty.
