Secrets and Surprises
A friend says, "Can you keep a secret?". Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Sometimes a friend says, "Can you keep a secret?" There are two kinds of secrets, and they are very different.
2. Some secrets are happy surprises. A birthday gift. A surprise party. Surprises feel fun, and they have an ending day when everyone finds out.
3. Some secrets feel bad, heavy, or scary. Maybe someone got hurt. Maybe someone is being unkind. Maybe the secret makes my tummy feel wrong.
4. Bad-feeling secrets always get told to a trusted adult. Always. That is not tattling. That is keeping people safe.
5. If a secret feels too heavy, I can tell my friend the truth.
6. Happy surprises end with a party or a gift. Heavy secrets end when a trusted adult helps. Either way, I do not have to carry big things alone.
