Meeting a Service Dog

I see a dog in a vest, and I really want to pet it.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Sometimes I see a dog wearing a special vest. A dog in a vest is a service dog. It is working.
2. A service dog’s job is helping its person. Watching, guiding, staying close. Even when it looks relaxed, it is on the job.
3. I might really want to pet it. Wanting to is okay! Dogs are wonderful.
4. The rule is: always ask the person first. Petting without asking can distract the dog from its important job.
5. I can ask the person, not the dog.
6. Then the person and the dog go on their way, and I go on mine. Asking first is the whole trick, every single time.
