Going to the Dentist
A checkup to keep my teeth healthy. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Today I am going to the dentist. The dentist helps keep my teeth healthy.
2. First we wait in a waiting room. There may be chairs and books. When it is my turn, someone calls my name.

3. I sit in a big chair. The chair leans back slowly. A bright light shines near my mouth.
The light is bright. The chair moving can feel funny in my tummy. I can close my eyes if I want.

4. The dentist counts my teeth with a small mirror. A tool might tickle or scrape a little. It is quick.
I might hear a little scraping sound. My mouth stays open for a short time, then I can close it.

5. I can choose things here. I can ask to see a tool first. I can ask to hold the mirror. I can ask for a break any time.
6. I can practice asking with Spark. Spark will be the dentist.
7. Feeling nervous is okay. Lots of people feel nervous at the dentist. I can bring my comfort toy or headphones.
What could happen after the counting? The dentist cleans my teeth with a tickly brush. The dentist says my teeth look great and I am done. The dentist takes a picture of my teeth. We don't know yet — we can ask the dentist. 💡 There are several things that might happen. We can always ask to find out.
8. When the dentist is done, the chair sits up. I get a new toothbrush or a sticker. We go home. I am done for today.
