Getting a Shot at the Doctor

At my checkup, it is time for a vaccine shot.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Sometimes at a checkup, I need a shot. A shot is a tiny bit of medicine that teaches my body to fight germs.
2. Here is the honest truth: a shot is a quick pinch. It does pinch. And it is over very fast, faster than a sneeze.
3. The nurse cleans my arm with a cool wipe first. Then pinch, then a bandage. Three steps, done.
A cold wet wipe, one quick pinch, a colorful bandage.
4. I have choices for the pinchy moment.

5. I can tell the nurse what helps me.
6. The pinch feeling fades in seconds. My arm might feel a little sore later, like after big playing. That means the medicine is working.
7. Then the shot part of the visit is completely over. Bandage on, maybe a sticker, and out the door. My body just got stronger, and I was there for it.
