Sleeping Over at Grandparents'

A whole night at my grandparents' home. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Tonight I am sleeping over at my grandparents' home. That means I stay there for the night, and my grown-ups pick me up after.
2. I pack a bag. My pajamas, my toothbrush, and my comfort things go inside. I can help choose what to bring.
3. Grandparents' homes can be different from mine. Different smells, different snacks, different rules. Different is not bad โ€” it is just different.
Their house might have a ticking clock, a different soap smell, or a squeaky floor. New sounds stand out at first, then fade.

4. I have choices. I can ask what we will do tonight. I can choose a story before bed. I can ask for the door open or closed.
5. At bedtime I might miss my grown-ups. Missing people is a sign of love, not a problem. I can hug my comfort toy and remember: pickup comes after breakfast.
The dark in a new room looks different. A night light can help my eyes find the room shapes.

6. It is okay to ask my grandparents for anything I need. Water, a light, an extra blanket, or just a hug. They want to help.
What could the morning be like?
  • We have a special breakfast together.
  • We play or read until pickup time.
  • I wake up early and wait a little while.
  • We don't know yet โ€” I can ask tonight what the plan is.
๐Ÿ’ก Mornings can go a few ways. Asking the night before makes the morning feel known.
7. After breakfast, my grown-ups come to get me. I pack my bag, hug my grandparents, and go home. The sleepover is done โ€” and I did a whole night away. That is big.
