My Classmate Talks With a Device
A kid in my class uses a talking device instead of mouth-words.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. A kid in my class talks in their own way. They press buttons on a device, and the device says their words out loud.
2. Voices come in many forms. Mouth-words, typed words, picture cards, and signs are all real ways to talk. Different is not less.
3. Building a sentence on a device takes time. Their words are worth waiting for.
4. The device belongs to them, like my backpack belongs to me. I do not touch it unless they invite me to.
5. I can say hi and wait for their answer.
6. If I am curious about how the device works, I can ask them, or ask our teacher. Curious and kind can go together.
7. We are classmates all year. There will be many chances to talk, play, and be friends, each in our own way.
