Being Picked Last
Teams are chosen and my name comes late. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Sometimes teams get picked at school. Someone is first. Someone is last. The order changes every time.
2. If my name comes late, I might get a heavy feeling. Lots of kids know that feeling.
3. Why do names come in different orders? There are many reasons.
Why might my name come late? The picker chose their close friends first. The picker was going fast and not thinking hard. The teams needed certain players first. We don't know yet — and that's okay. 💡 Picking order is not a report card about me. Every player matters once the game starts.

take a slow breath remind myself the order is not about my worth focus on the game starting talk to an adult if the feeling stays heavy
5. Once the game starts, teams are just teams. I can play my best and have fun.
6. When the game ends, the teams are done. Next time the order will be different. This moment is over, and I got through it.
