Raising My Hand for Help
Being stuck is normal. Asking for help is a skill, not a failure.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Sometimes in class I get stuck. The page stops making sense, and everyone else keeps writing.
2. The first time, I just sat there. My worry got bigger and the work did not get smaller. Staying quiet felt safer โ but the stuck stayed stuck.
3. My teacher told me a secret: every single person in class gets stuck. Asking for help is what strong learners do.
4. My signal is raising my hand. If raising my hand feels like too much today, I have backups.
raise my hand put my help card on the desk write my question down for later ask the teacher for help after the lesson
5. The next time I got stuck, I tried it. I raised my hand. My teacher came over and I said, "I don't get this part."
6. She showed me the first step. That was all I needed. My teacher said, "You noticed you were stuck and asked โ that's exactly right."
7. Now when the stuck feeling comes, I know it will end.
8. Stuck is temporary. My signal works. And needing help sometimes is true for everyone, everywhere, always.
