Strong Smells

A smell is too strong, and my nose is overwhelmed.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Sometimes a smell is very strong. Perfume. Cleaning spray. Fish for lunch. Paint.
2. Strong smells can feel like they fill my whole head. My nose cannot look away like eyes can.
A thick smell in the air, a wrinkly nose, maybe a yucky tummy.
3. Some noses are extra good at smelling. Mine might be one. That is real, not picky.
4. I can help my nose.

5. I can use polite words. "That smell is strong for me. Can I sit somewhere else?" I do not have to say the smell is bad โ€” just strong for me.
6. Noses have a superpower: they get used to smells. After a while, a smell fades into the background.
7. Smells drift away and air freshens. My nose gets a rest, and lunch tomorrow will smell like something new.
