Thunder in the Night

I am in bed, and thunder starts booming outside.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.

1. Sometimes thunder comes at night, while I am in bed. Boom. Rumble. The windows shake a little.
2. Thunder in the dark can feel bigger than thunder in the day.
Deep rumbles, sudden flashes at the curtains, rain drumming the roof.
3. Thunder is the sound lightning makes, far up in the sky. I am inside, in my bed, under my roof. The storm is out there. I am in here.
4. I have nighttime storm choices.
count the seconds between flash and boomburrow into my blankets like a cozy cavehug my stuffed friendcall for my grown-up, even in the middle of the night
5. Here is a storm trick: when the count between flash and boom gets longer, the storm is moving away. I can hear it leaving.
6. Calling for a grown-up at night is always allowed. Storms are a very good reason. Grown-ups would rather be woken than have me scared alone.
7. Storms always move on. The booms get farther, then softer, then gone. The rain slows to a patter, and sleep finds me again. By morning, the sky is just sky.
