Waiting Is Hard
I have to wait, and my body does not like it.. Read it together, at your pace. Every page is written in your child's voice.
1. Sometimes I have to wait. In a line. For my turn. For an appointment. For a slow grown-up.
2. Waiting can feel itchy inside. My body wants to GO. Time feels slow and stretchy.
Wiggly legs, an impatient buzz, time moving like syrup.
3. Finding waiting hard is normal. Brains like things to happen now. Mine especially might.
4. I can give my waiting body a job.
play I-spy with my eyes count things around me squeeze my hands together wiggle my toes inside my shoes ask an adult how much longer
5. I can ask for information. "How long will it be?" Knowing the number makes waiting smaller. Timers help too.
6. I can bring wait-helpers when I know a wait is coming. A book. A fidget. A snack. My imagination comes free.
7. Every wait has an end. The line moves. My turn comes. And I will have waited like a champion.
